Athletics are an integral part of a PES education. Through sports, our students expand their self-confidence, develop leadership skills, and learn to work together towards a common goal. With 90% of our middle school students participating on one of our athletic teams, the PES Gryphons compete in the Charlotte Gaston Athletic Association and field teams in volleyball, co-ed cross country, boys and girls basketball, co-ed tennis, co-ed golf and co-ed flag football. Twenty-five of our students have been designated All-Conference Athletes and our teams have won conference titles in basketball, golf, cross country and flag football.
For more information about PES middle school athletics, please contact Athletic Director Rusty Menchaca at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Being physically active is a critical step on the path to life-long healthy living. At PES, our students participate in physical education classes twice weekly that include cooperative games and promote skill development, sportsmanship and healthy decision-making. During PE, students also participate in tennis, golf and swim units, utilizing the amenities found in the Palisades community. In addition to this wide range of in-school PE activities, PES also offers after school clubs like Girls on the Run and Crossfit.
Unique to PES is the option for students in grades 3-8 to choose to enroll in Equestrian to fulfill their PE requirement. Our PES Equestrian curriculum is designed to promote good horsemanship and good sportsmanship as well as cultivate riders of all skill levels. Equestrian sports can be enjoyed for a lifetime and promote fitness and an active lifestyle. Horseback riding builds confidence and self-reliance as well as imparting a strong sense of responsibility for these awesome creatures.
PES Equestrian classes meet twice per week for 90 minutes. All riding instruction is in English style riding with a focus on hunt seat. PES is a United States Pony Club Riding Center, and our students will complete the Pony Club curriculum during units focusing on grooming and safe handling, equine anatomy and conformation, equine first aid and health care, and many other topics are covered during the school year. Our PES Equestrian classes meet at the Palisades Equestrian Center which is conveniently located within the Palisades neighborhood.
PES Equestrian students may join the US Pony Club to earn ratings badges, or choose to compete at local, rated, or Interscholastic horse shows.
There is an additional fee for the PES Equestrian program. For more information about PES Equestrian, please contact Emily Frye at email@example.com.
